Best time to come to The Found Sock (avoiding the Brighton rush)

When the laundromat is empty, when it's slammed, and how to time your visit so you never wait for a washer or dryer.

If you’ve ever walked into a laundromat on a Sunday afternoon and seen every machine running, you know the pain. Here’s when The Found Sock is empty, when it’s busy, and the sweet spots most people miss.

The honest schedule

We’re open every day, 6 AM to 11 PM. Here’s the typical traffic pattern:

DayQuietBusySlammed
MondayAll morning6–8 PM
TuesdayMost of the day6–8 PM
WednesdayAll day6–8 PM
ThursdayMorningsEvenings
FridayMornings5–9 PM
Saturday6–10 AM, after 8 PM10 AM, 4 PM11 AM – 3 PM
Sunday6–9 AM, after 7 PMAll day11 AM – 4 PM

Best times to come

If you have flexibility, these are the sweet spots — pick from any of these:

Tuesday or Wednesday morning, 8–11 AM

The emptiest hours of the entire week. You’ll often be one of two or three people. Every machine available, no waiting for anything.

Weekday evening after 8 PM

The post-work rush clears out by 7:30. From 8 PM until close, it’s quiet — most people have already finished their loads or come earlier.

Saturday before 10 AM

A pocket of quiet before the weekend rush kicks in at 11. Get in by 9 AM, you’ll be done before it’s busy.

Sunday after 7 PM

The Sunday-evening crowd is small. Most people did laundry earlier in the day. If you can wait, this is the calmest weekend window.

Times to avoid (if you can)

Saturday and Sunday, 11 AM – 3 PM

Peak hours. Brighton, Allston, and Brookline residents all arrive in this window. You may wait 10–20 minutes for a washer or dryer.

Weekday evenings 6–8 PM

The “after work” rush. Not as bad as weekends, but you’ll share the space.

Sunday afternoon (any time)

Sunday is generally the busiest day. If you can shift your laundry day to any other day, you’ll have a much smoother visit.

Local tips

A few patterns specific to Brighton:

  • The first really cold week of fall (usually mid-October) is huge for comforter washes — everyone pulls comforters out of storage at once. Come early in the day or wait until Wednesday of that week.
  • Move-in week (around September 1) — Brighton’s massive turnover day. Avoid for 2–3 days after.
  • Game days at BC — usually fine. Most BC students do laundry on campus.
  • Snow days — surprisingly busy. People stuck inside catch up on laundry. Come early.
  • Holidays — Christmas Day, Thanksgiving, July 4 — usually empty. We’re open.

How to skip the wait entirely

Two ways:

1. Use the FasCard app before you leave home. The app shows you which machines are currently in use and which are available. If you see all 8 of our 30 lb washers running, wait 30 minutes and check again. Saves a wasted trip.

2. Run two washers in parallel. If you have multiple loads, start two machines at the same time when there’s space. You’ll both finish about the same moment, so you only need one trip to the dryer. Cuts your total visit time in half.

What the schedule means for you

If laundry day always feels stressful — there’s a 90% chance it’s because you’ve been doing it during peak Brighton hours. Try shifting once to a Tuesday morning or a Wednesday evening. You’ll wonder why you didn’t do it that way the whole time.
